Struggling To Get Your Own Server? Why The Raspberry PI Zero W Is The Best Fit For Data Enthusiasts

For a long time I was curious about data and automatic data pipelines but never knew exactly how to start. As everybody in business administration who has no technical background, I started with Microsoft Excel. This was a good start to understanding the different structures and mechanisms of data. After some time I reached the limits in Excel. Mostly because it is limited to approximately 1 million rows. Therefore I started to learn SQL and an ETL tool called Pentaho. With this setup, I was ready to go to dive deeper into the sphere of data engineering and data analytics.

After a while, I started learning R and discovered its nearly endless capabilities. I still did not know how to publish finished products and run them automatically and periodically. Because of this, I fancied with an own server but the monthly occurring cost did scare me off.

Luckily I stumbled across the Raspberry PI ecosystem to test and further strengthen my IT knowledge.

My Requirements:

  • Low cost running 24/7/365
